Analysis of Non-Marital Fertility in Nigeria and Implications for Intervention and Future Research

Fertility and marriage are inextricably linked in sub-Saharan Africa, but recent changes, such as the rise non-marital fertility, signals a weakening link, second demographic transition offers some explanations. Using data from Nigeria Demographic Survey 2008–2018, pooled weighted sample size 11,925 unmarried women, percentage distribution was employed two-part model count fitted, result showing that level is 29%, common among younger, rural dwelling, uneducated women.
